Friday Fusion at Diss Auction Rooms

Diss Auction Rooms has been steadily building back its sales calendar since lockdown eased and whilst auctions held in May and June were primarily online only and operated remotely, the firm of TW Gaze has been gradually re-introducing onsite-sales and public viewing days as health and safety restrictions have allowed.
Best known within the region for holding 51 weekly auctions a year (every Friday except Christmas week), plus multiple specialist-auctions each month, on 14 August they launch a newly defined element of their traditional weekly profile.
Director Elizabeth Talbot said “For many people, the rhythm of our auctions sets the structure for their week. They view sales on a Thursday and/ or attend our auctions on a Friday. The pandemic has deprived them of this pattern for over four months and the eagerness for it to resume is clear. We have been working hard to reach the stage where we can re-open the Friday sales to the public, ensuring everyone’s safety, comfort, and enjoyment, in order for customers to be able to re-engage with us with confidence. As part of this return we have taken the opportunity to combine the best of two elements of our Friday mix and create more of a lifestyle auction – a fusion of old and new – to compliment the shifting tastes of the modern consumer. This is where collector meets interior designer, dealer meets home-maker.”
The first of these sales certainly looks enticing, full of colour, intrigue and quality, and, as with the best of auctions, with plenty of scope to find both treasures and bargains.
Auction Rooms Manager, Matt Brand, commented, “Some people are delighted to be able to be back with us in person, for them we cannot move fast enough. Other customers are choosing to retain their remote methods of doing business with us. Our job is to facilitate both approaches. It is fantastic we are now able to extend a warm welcome back on site to our full weekly sale programme. We are geared to manage space for social distancing so that both viewing and bidding can take place with due consideration for everybody’s wellbeing.”
Viewing on takes place on Thursdays 10am – 4pm. On Friday, the Furniture sale in The Blyth Barn starts at 9.30am, the Friday Antiques and Interiors auction at 10am and the Deadstock Meadow, which includes fresh nursery plant stock for the garden, begins at 11am. with viewing for all sales available from 8.30am. Please attend site equipped with face masks and respect safe social distancing.
Catalogues will be available on line www.twgaze.co.uk and Café 1857 will be open both days, serving takeaway refreshments.
Meanwhile, keep an eye on the TW Gaze website for a regularly updated schedule of forthcoming online special sales including Books, Toys, Jewellery and The Gallery Sale.
