Rural Bygones

One of the many specialist auctions organised by TW Gaze in Diss is the “Rural & Domestic Bygones” sale. It is held five times every year and is one of the flag ship auctions in the calendar containing an average of 1,500 lots each time. At the helm of this particular vessel is Robert Kinsella who has a wealth of experience in the department and is an unquestionable font of knowledge.

No two auctions are ever the same but they will all invariably contain tools of country crafts and trades long gone; farm implements and artefacts for animal husbandry; enamel signs, advertising and shop goods; kitchenalia and accessories from hearth and home, town and country; hand carts, trade bicycles, gypsy caravans…

These sales had their foundation in what was plentiful in East Anglia; possessions stored safely by successive generations, “old faithfuls” and outmoded artefacts saved “just in case they may ever come in handy”. Collectors, museums, film companies and dealers flock to buy from Diss. It is the place to source bygones. However, such is the success of this sale in Diss, it is also the place to sell, so vendors travel the length and breadth of the British Isles to consign their bygones for sale at TW Gaze.
