Remote Bidding

We have a number of remote bidding options for those unable to attend the sale in person. All bids are only accepted on the condition that the potential bidder has satisfied themselves as to what they are bidding on.

  • By Website - Return to the current catalogues page and click on the 'estimated price', where you can send your bids automatically to us. All such bids must be received 1 hour before the sale start time.To undertake this service for free click "Absentee Bid". Our live bidding partners offer a "Auto Bid" facility which costs 3%.
  • By Telephone - 01379 650306 (+44 1379 650306 outside the UK). No later than 30 minutes before the sale commences. Remote bidders will be required to register a valid UK debit/credit card. In registering by telephone, unless alternative arrangements are agreed with us, the bidder authorises payment in full on the registered card.

Commission / Written Bids

Any bids entrusted to the Auctioneers will be faithfully executed on behalf of the buyer. Only bids over £10 may be submitted by written bid. We can only accept bids where you, or an agent acting on your behalf, has inspected the lot. By placing a bid you are agreeing that you have done this. If purchased for you the price will be at as low a level as other bidding or reserve price allows. In the situation of identical bids, the auctioneers may, at their discretion on your behalf, exceed your commission by one bid to secure the lot for you, one bid being calculated as no more than 10% of the bid value on bids over £50. Please also remember that a Buyer's Premium will be charged on the hammer price at 24% (Inc. VAT). Payment and collection is required upon notification of your success.

Live Internet Bidding

All our indoor specialist sales and our weekly Antiques auction are served with live internet bidding via our website, enabling you to bid at home, at work or on the move. This service is available at an additional charge of 3% of the hammer price, and buyers will need to register with us. Many sales are also listed on the-saleroom.com and live bidding is available from them at an additional charge of 4.95% of the hammer price, buyers will need to register with them.

Please refer to our Advice for Buyers section for payment and further advice.

Lot Reports

We are pleased to provide email images of items with a guide price over £50, time permitting, for your assessment. If required we will give honest answers to specific questions asked regarding any damage or restoration which is immediately apparent. We can give no guarantee on authenticity, completeness or concealed restoration. We strongly recommend your personal viewing of the item and will only accept an absentee bid from you if you have done so. If purchase is subsequently effected - viewed or not viewed - full liability as to the price, condition, authenticity and suitability is that of the purchaser.
